The Writers Guild of America East delivered the following petition to NBCU management at the bargaining table on Wednesday, June 28th.
Petition to Peacock/NBCU Management
We are members of the Writers Guild who work for NBCU in NYC, crafting stories for television. Our union is trying to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement covering writer-producers who also work for NBCU – through its Peacock operation – and who also craft stories for television.
We are one union, represented by the Writers Guild at NBCU and NBCU/Peacock. We all work for the same company – some of us in the same building. We call upon Peacock to enter a contract with the Writers Guild that would provide:
- Meaningful health benefits that employees can afford. At the bargaining table, management has made a proposal that would provide health benefits to no Peacock writer-producers. In fact it would strip away the health benefits that some Peacock writer-producers already have.
- Basic union protections like a grievance and arbitration provision and union security. We all pay our dues and we all enjoy active union representation.
- Minimum pay rates that reflect the value the writer-producers bring to their shows. Management has proposed rates that are far below what the company currently pays, and far below the cost of living in New York.
These are protections we all enjoy as Writers Guild members. Our brothers and sisters at Peacock deserve no less.
